Course overview

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of most common diagnoses in the general population and a condition that is treated frequently by occupational and physical therapists. Pain, loss of range of motion, and weakness are characteristic symptoms with OA and are the focus of this course. Evidence will be presented to support the use of superficial and deep heat, transcutaneous electrical neuromuscular stimulation (TENS), interferential current (IFC), and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) to alleviate pain, facilitate increased range of motion, and address weakness. This course will assist clinician’s in incorporating physical agents in their plan of care for patients with OA and outline how physical agents can be used for improved clinical outcomes.
