Course overview
The subject of neonatal and infant PICCs encompasses neonate and newborn infants to approximately 6 months of age. This course incorporates the recommendations from the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and those from the Infusion Nurses Society specific to neonates and pediatric patients. In areas where there is a contradiction between the two recommending agencies, both recommendations have been presented. Comprehensive information is then provided regarding all aspects of PICCs including: indications and contraindications for use, growth and development and how it applies to selection, anatomy, neonatal vein anatomy, vessel health, vein selection, insertion preparation, step-by-step insertion procedures by multiple methods as they apply to neonates, complications, care and maintenance, and legal aspects all specific to neonates.
