Course overview

Discusses how to implement evidence-based quality improvement changes, including the eight steps of change, errors common to organizational change, how to create a new organizational culture, and how to plan an organizational change. Implementing change within organizations utilizing evidence-based practices is necessary to improve patient outcomes. However, there are often multiple barriers encountered while attempting to implement change, and nurses in particular may often be resistant to changes related to processes and procedures. As leaders, nurses must be willing and able to collaborate with the healthcare team to determine new and innovative ways to deliver high quality and safe patient care. Nurses must take responsibility for identifying problems and/or areas for improvement, and must also devise and implement improvement plans based on the best available evidence. This program discusses best practices in evidence-based change management, including how nursing leaders can be instrumental in implementing evidence-based quality improvement changes within their organization.
