Mechanism of Injury (v2)
Tracking # 20-633285
Course overview
Trauma is the leading cause of death for all people between the ages of 14 and 40, and is the third leading cause of death for all age groups. One-third of all trauma-related deaths in the United States are a result of motor vehicle collisions. Mechanism of injury includes all forces that acted upon the patient, both externally and internally. Knowledge of how the patients body is affected by colliding with these forces is part of the MOI. Understanding that energy must transfer and how that energy transfer affected your patient is yet another aspect of MOI. EMS providers who understand all aspects of MOI will provide better care to their patients.
