Course overview

Methamphetamine is an illicit drug manufactured from household and agricultural chemicals and over-the-counter drugs. Clandestine labs are easy to set up and can be just about anywhere - most common are rural areas, vehicles, motels, and homes. The scene safety concerns to first responders are many. Meth labs are HazMat incidents and should always be responded to as one. EMS responders should never knowingly enter a meth lab if they do not have the appropriate equipment. Most labs are discovered after a fire or explosion. Detective Sergeant Richard Beghtol, Meth Coordinator for the Washington State Patrol, reviews the physiological and physical effects of meth addiction and the importance of being familiar with the clues and warning signs of a clandestine lab.
