Suicide Assessment Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• To examine the general epidemiology of the incidence and prevalence of suicide in myriad populations in order to determine risk factors and protective factors
• To identify key risk factors and precipitating events that typically impact individual patients, such as comorbidity and situational/environmental events
• To learn interventions to manage risk factors and precipitating events, particularly for high risk groups and individuals
• To understand the clinician’s role in making a preliminary and ongoing assessment of a patient’s status vis a vis suicide potentiality
• To review these precepts by examining key concepts
• By increasing knowledge and understanding, to thereby improve clinical judgement so that robust interventions are employed to protect the life and health of patients
