Weight, eating, exercise avoidance, and body image concerns are a central focus of treatment for eating disorders and obesity. These issues may also emerge in treating depression, marital, self-esteem, and sexual problems. In this workshop you’ll gain an understanding of genetics, physiology, and addiction, in addition to the emotional and interpersonal determinants of weight. You’ll learn about dieting controversies, medical and surgical treatments, as well as effective, practical methods you can use to help your clients deal with hunger, eating triggered by environmental cues, and emotional eating which may result from trauma. Techniques for increasing physical activity and improving body image regardless of weight will also be presented.
