Statement of Learning Need

Clinicians need to know the indications, dosing and dosing adjustments, contraindications and potential side effects of thioridazine. Specifically, some have criticised thioridazine for having a higher incidence of antimuscarinic effects, however the drug reportedly has a lower incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms in the treatment of schizophrenia than some other antipsychotics. 

Course Purpose

To inform health clinicians of current published information relative to basic pharmacological profile of thioridazine and clinical pearls on topics that were covered in the basic pharmacological profile.

Target Audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and other Interdisciplinary Health Team Members.
