“No Pain, No Gain”. Rehab professionals, athletes, coaches and patients have all heard this phrase a time or two. The idea that experiencing pain made an individual stronger has been pervasive. Recent studies have shown, however, that pain is perceived as a threat by the brain, which in turn alters the body’s natural movement pattern to compensate. Fortunately, research has given us much more insight into the brain’s responses to pain and how to utilize techniques to decrease the threat response and improve function. This one-day lab intensive course focuses on the theory and application of Muscle Energy Techniques. Attendees will explore the benefits of autogenic and reciprocal inhibition techniques of the spine and extremities to increase muscle facilitation, mobility, stability, and movement re-patterning to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. Through hands on lab sessions, case studies and lecture, this class will provide you with the knowledge to explain the multiple benefits of METs as well as the ability to implement each technique into daily practice.
