Course overview
This course will provide information about the prevalence of domestic violence and the impact it has on individual patients and on society. Different forms of domestic violence and the sequelae on selected populations’ health care will be discussed. Also, national laws will be reviewed to enhance the reader’s knowledge on the resources available and the legal issues encountered by victims of domestic violence. LEARNING OBJECTIVES • Discuss the prevalence of domestic violence and how it has been viewed in the media recently. • Assess how survivors of domestic violence view their health and the impact it has on the health care system. • Explain PTSD as a sequela of domestic violence. • Analyze the effects of domestic violence on specific populations. • Identify laws that impact domestic violence.
