Supporting Children Victimized by Human Trafficking

Course overview

The growing awareness of human trafficking in the United States and abroad, as well as the impact on the physical and behavioral health of the victims, requires government and human services agencies to reevaluate old policies and develop new ones for identifying and serving victims. The purpose of this intermediate level continuing education course, developed using information from the Child Welfare Information Gateway, is to explore how children who have been victimized as well as children that are at greater risk for future victimization can be supported. It provides background information about the issue, including its scope, relevant legislation and initiatives, and strategies that agencies can implement to address the trafficking of children. In addition, Federal legislation related to identifying and serving minor victims of human trafficking is presented.
