Course overview

An overview of principles and practices of sex therapy as related to Marriage and Family therapy. Students acquire an understanding of human sexual response, sexual dysfunction, and concepts of sex therapies. A particular focus of this course will be the understanding of sexual behavior from a relational and systemic framework and within a sociocultural context. This course is designed to be a comprehensive overview of the full range of sexual issues presented by males, females, and couples in therapy. The course will emphasize the interaction among psychological, biological, and relationship factors in the treatment of sexual disorders. Major areas of foci will be: assessment, case formulation, treatment planning, and intervention. This course suffices a requirement of a Marriage and Family core class that will be taught in the context of a systemic perspective and contextually and culturally specific approach that addresses family relational issues.
