Course overview

This course is designed to develop practical competencies around the core skills identified as essential for peer recovery support education (CPRC): Screening, Intake, Orientation, Treatment Planning, Counseling, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Client Education, Referral, Reports and Recordkeeping, and Consultation (Ethics, Professional Issues, and Cultural Diversity). The course will explore the subject of abuse of alcohol, other drugs, and related issues and conditions. The course will provide students with specific skill sets in each of the core functions areas. This course satisfies the education requirements of the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Certification Board of Georgia (ADACBGA) and the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC). This course is designed for peer-based services within a drug and alcohol related field. The Peer Support Specialist promotes a collaborative relationship focused on strengths based model, person-centered approach, and Transtheoretical Model-Stages of Change.
