Statement of Learning Need

The existing knowledge of synthetic cannabis prevalence of use and potential health effects has been lacking within most clinical settings. This is largely due to the need for more controlled research studies and case reports on the benefit and risk of synthetic cannabis use. Reported health benefits are based upon limited studies. The negative consequences of synthetic cannabis is significant, including psychosis, cardiovascular effects, organ damage, and potential family and child health risks in regional jurisdictions where the use of synthetic cannabis has dramatically increased.

Course Purpose 

To provide health clinicians with knowledge of the pharmacological profile, epidemiology, research, potential benefits and risks of synthetic cannabis use.

Target Audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and other Interdisciplinary Health Team Members.
