Course overview

This course offers acupuncturists an overview of key issues relating to the clinical practice of treating women in pregnancy and the postpartum. This includes western medical concepts impetrative for safe practice as well as experienced treatment suggestions for difficult cases from experienced practitioners. This includes understanding the treatment of nausea, hyperemesis, threatened miscarriage Pre- labour rupture of membranes, anxiety and depression and postpartum. Case histories and group discussions will be used generate discussion to assist practitioners build their clinical confidence. Several scenarios for each session will be used to illustrate the realities of clinical practice, red flags that require attention and Chinese medicine considerations. Following an opportunity for participants to problem solve within a small group, Debra will lead a feedback session, followed by a PowerPoint presenting treatment recommendations. Sarah Budd will also join this workshop as a co lecturer to share her considerable experience as relevant.
