Course overview

Objectives 1. Understand bone contents and normal bone maintenance 2. Understand what bone remodeling is and the function of osteoblasts and osteoclasts 3. Be able to explain what population is most likely to be affected by osteoporosis 4. Understand risk factors (both modifiable and non-modifiable) that could put patients more at risk for osteoporosis 5. Understand what lab values would be used to diagnose osteoporosis and where they come from 6. Have a general knowledge of the drug classes and their mechanism of action that are used to treat osteoporosis
