Course overview

Discussion of mental health disorders, including prevalence, cause, and pathophysiology associated with various mood and thought disorders, as well as interventions. Discussion includes an overview of mental health disorders and mood disorders, including prevalence, symptoms, etiology, neurotransmitter and hormone imbalance, and regions of the brain affected; types of mental disorders, including mood disorders, depressive disorders, and bipolar disorders; thought disorders; schizophrenia, including prevalence, etiology, neuropathology, hypofrontality and executive dysfunction, categorization of symptoms, diagnostic criteria, and subtypes and related disorders; methods of psychopharmacological management for depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychosis; and other interventions for mental health disorders, including risk assessment, counseling, behavioral therapy, psychosocial interventions, physical activity, and the focus of occupational therapy interventions that can be performed.
