11219 Identifying and Managing Common Elbow Injuries in Athletes
Tracking # 20-668627
Course overview
This course discusses the three nerves (i.e., median, ulnar, radial), three joints (i.e., ulnohumeral, radiocapitellar, proximal radioulnar), and three ligaments (i.e., medial collateral or ulnar collateral, lateral collateral, annular) involved in the anatomy of the elbow. It provides directions to obtain patient medical histories using the OPQRSTAA mnemonic, a list of alarm symptoms, and clues about how to spot masqueraders. This presenter describes how to correlate medical history with a range of potential diagnoses. The presenter demonstrates incorporation of an evidence-based approach during the physical examination of the elbow, and which imaging to recommend. There is emerging evidence for a range of common overuse injuries in adult and pediatric patients including various treatments for acute, simple elbow dislocations.
