Course overview

Providing wound care is often a daily nursing requirement. It is vital that the nurse understands wounds, the healing process, how to care for wounds, and best practices in the care of this ever changing common problem. The course provides both foundational content as well as current best care practices. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course, the student will master the following objectives: 1. Describe the anatomy of the skin; 2. Describe the phases of normal wound healing; 3. Compare and contrast various types of wounds, their etiologies, and needs; 4. Discuss wound and patient assessment needs; 5. Identify treatment modalities used for specific types of wounds; 6. Identify nursing interventions used for the prevention of wounds.
