This program will educate nurses about the fundamental requirements of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. After studying the information presented here, you will be able to: describe the history of EMTALA and its goal, discuss three of EMTALA's fundamental requirements, and identify the legal and regulatory consequences of an EMTALA violation.
