Course overview
Research shows that self-regulation is one of the most important predictors of academic success. In a nutshell, self-regulation is the ability to respond appropriately to a situation and involves sensory processing, emotions, and executive functioning skills. This 2-hour, view-on-demand, recorded webinar provides an overview of self-regulation as well as a framework for facilitating the development of this vital skill set in kids who are struggling with attention, outbursts, social interactions, self-calming, and more. At the end of this course, you will be able to (1) define self-regulation, (2) assess self-regulation skills, (3) identify areas of development hindering self-regulation based on a child's assessment, (4) list resources to assist in the development of self-regulation, and (5) integrate a teaching model of "Before-During-Reflection" into intervention with students. This course is targeted to introductory- to intermediate-level occupational therapists, social workers, teachers, and caregivers. The course instructor, Gwen Wild, MOT, OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist specializing in the treatment of children and adolescents diagnosed with autism and sensory processing disorders. Gwen is the owner of Sensational Brain LLC and creator of BrainWorks sensory diet tools.
