Course overview

Overview of the Juvenile Justice system and the connections to mental health. Policy changes and perspective and their impact on youth being involved with the Justice system. Additionally, the training will highlight county programs that are linked to the Justice system and how to work best on behalf of the client with those providers Course Presentation Syllabus Instructional Objectives: Three objectives are required. Instructional objectives state the specific content or skills that participants will learn by attending the course. Objectives should be written in behaviorally specific terms. Objectives: 1. Identify the top 8 common behavioral health disorders common among justice involved youth 2. Discuss assessment processes for gauging the level of developmental assets, community, and family supports available to youth involved in juvenile justice system using systems of care approach 3. Identify legal issues involving HIPPA, privacy and confidentiality when reporting treatment information about justice involved youth 4. Assess community resources and Justice Center programs to best meet client needs for system of care approach
