An Introduction to the Practice of Saam Acupuncture

Course overview

This course will provide the student with a foundation in the Saam acupuncture tradition. This foundation will allow the student to begin using the Saam tradition immediately after the completion of the course. The course begins with an examination of the clinical roots of the tradition, drawing from the Yi Jing, Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen, Huang Di Nei Jing Ling Shu, and Nan Jing classical texts. Theory and concepts from these classical texts will be assembled on to a framework based on Yin/Yang, Five Phase, and Six Conformation principles. This framework in turn provides the theory, diagnosis and treatment strategies that comprise the Saam acupuncture tradition. In order to move from theory to clinic, students will apply their newly learned framework to prepared case studies provided by the instructor. Then students will work in small groups to apply Saam acupuncture concepts to their own case studies. Finally, the class will diagnose and treat a patient in class in order to experience Saam diagnosis and treatment in person.
