Course overview

Discussion of shock, including the different types, stages, causes for each type, pathophysiology, clinical presentation and diagnostic findings associated with each type, and appropriate treatment for each type. Shock is a serious and often life-threatening medical condition, resulting from the inability of the body to receive enough blood flow to maintain adequate circulation and tissue perfusion. Shock is a common condition in critical care settings, affecting approximately one third of patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Shock is associated with high morbidity and mortality, and ensuring rapid identification of the etiology is crucial so that the appropriate treatment can be initiated. This program discusses the different types of shock, including etiology, clinical presentation, and treatment/management.
