Delirium has a multibillion dollar financial impact every year. It can be traumatizing to patients, family members, and care givers. This course will provide an overview of how to recognize, prevent, and manage delirium in the adult hospitalized patient. By having a clearer understanding of delirium, it may be possible to decrease delirium rates in the patient population that has modifiable risk factors. Course participants will also learn methods for providing appropriate care for their patients who do develop delirium. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants will: Define Delirium Describe the prevalence of delirium in acute care populations Describe the costs of delirium Describe screening and assessment tools for delirium Discuss pharmacological and non-pharmacologic interventions for prevention and management of delirium Describe the risk factors/causes of delirium
