Course overview
This course examines neurobehavioral theories of addiction and evaluates them against benchmarks. Each theory is explained from inception, various modifications to its current state. The seven main theories discussed are: dopamine-related theories; learning or habit theories; Incentive-Sensitization Theory; Dopamine Imbalance Theory; withdrawal, negative reinforcement, and opponent process theories; strength models of Self Control Failure; Dual Decision System and Dual Decision System-Derived Theories. This is a theoretical intensive course.
