Course overview

Advances in immuno-oncology (I-O) continue to revolutionize how cancer is treated in community settings. As clinicians apply the latest scientific evidence, they must also know how to effectively navigate institutional policies and procedures to ensure that patients are receiving safe and appropriate care. Cancer centers need to know how to optimize their biomarker testing processes so that appropriate tests are ordered in a timely fashion. Cancer centers also need to have processes in place to ensure that patients who are treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors are monitored closely and that all staff are following treatment guidelines when managing immune-mediated adverse reactions. This online course will allow pathologists, laboratory professionals, and cancer clinicians to experience a virtual cancer committee discussion that explores ways to improve biomarker testing processes and addresses the complex challenges associated with identifying and managing immune-mediated adverse reactions. The course will illustrate how members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team can work together to identify meaningful clinical and programmatic goals as more patients are treated with immunotherapy. The course will also demonstrate how members of the multidisciplinary cancer care team may lead quality improvement efforts to ensure that patients are receiving safe and effective care within their institutions.
