Course overview

Discussion of congestive heart failure CHF including the risk factors, the difference between left- and right-sided CHF, signs and symptoms, diagnostic testing, and treatment options, including medications, implantable devices, and surgery. CHF is a serious health problem in the United States. More than six million Americans are living with CHF, and more than 900,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. There are multiple factors that may contribute to the development of CHF and individuals with CHF often have other comorbidities. Although heart failure sounds daunting, individuals with CHF can often manage the condition with early detection and proper treatment. Ongoing medical advancements and screening options offer a better chance of detecting CHF in early stages, potentially increasing life expectancy. This program discusses types of CHF, risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnostic testing, and treatment options available, including new modalities.
