Statement of Learning Need

Current research and guidelines related to head trauma focus on interdisciplinary team support of brain-injured patients and ways to reduce morbidity and mortality. Clinicians need to be knowledgeable of the pathophysiology, the recommended clinical assessment and testing, and care models to assist in the diagnosis, treatment planning for acute and long-term rehabilitation, and to select new processes that support improved clinical outcomes.

 

Course Purpose

To provide health clinicians with knowledge of how to recognize, diagnose and treat patients with head trauma from the acute in-hospital phase through the rehabilitation phase with a focus on the long-term treatment of head injured patients and of their families.

 

Target Audience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, Registered Nurses, and other Interdisciplinary Health Team Members.
