Course overview

This course prepares acupuncturists to provide community-style acupuncture to people impacted by natural disasters and human conflict. The focus is on how to provide trauma prevention and recovery care to impacted communities in times of crisis. Topics include: The physiological, social and psychological factors in trauma patterns; epigenetics and sociological sources of trauma; clinical tools for trauma prevention/reduction including acupuncture, meditation, qi gong; how to set up disaster response projects in the community; how to work safely on mobile teams and in community settings; cultural humility considerations when providing trauma-informed care; self help and safety for practitioners working in the field in crisis situations.
