Osteoarthritis of the First CMC Joint: What a Pain in the Thumb!
Tracking # 20-697919
Course overview
We tend to take our thumbs for granted; that is, until they hurt. With an injury or loss of use of a thumb, there is a 20% loss of ability to perform normal activities. Osteoarthritis (OA) of the thumb, specifically of the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint, is a common cause of pain and functional limitations. Because there is no cure for arthritis, the primary treatment is patient education. This module outlines techniques for physical and occupational therapy professionals to employ to manage symptoms and perhaps slow the progression of joint changes.
