Course overview

Physical therapy professionals can play a key role in helping to provide a safer environment for youth sports. Each sport and activity is unique and possesses its own trends relative to training and the types of commonly seen injuries. Further, there are additional risks specific to child and preadolescent athletes and their physical development. This course will provide the learner with knowledge regarding simple interventions to increase safety, such as pre-participation screening, concussion management, ensuring safe playing fields, and appropriately planning for medical emergencies. The goal of this youth sport safety educational program is to provide physical therapy practitioners with current concepts related to the prevention, reduction, or reduced severity of sports-related injuries in children. The content in this course is applicable to physical therapy professionals.
