Management of HIV AIDS

Course overview

At the completion of this home study activity, pharmacists will be able to: Describe the etiology and pathogenesis of HIV; Review current modes of transmission of HIV; Compare and contrast the various pharmacological agents used to treat HIV AIDS; Describe the rationale behind combination therapies; Recognize complications associated with HIV AIDS; Interpret current Florida law on HIV/AIDS and its impact on testing, confidentiality, treatment, protocol and procedures, and partner notification; Identify the pharmacist role in providing care for HIV infected patients. At the completion of this home study activity, pharmacy technicians will be able to: List methods of transmission of HIV/AIDS; Recognize the five antiretroviral drug classes; Identify the opportunistic infections which may occur in HIV AIDS; Identify ways the technician can provide care for HIV infected patients; Interpret current Florida law on HIV/AIDS.
