Investigating and prosecuting crimes against children can be a complex and lengthy process, with multiple parties involved. Prosecution of child abuse cases is an important component of a communitys response for holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, as well as protection of children. Nurses and other healthcare professionals may find themselves in a situation where they are required to testify in the courtroom regarding crimes against children or other cases, and they must be aware of what is expected of them in the courtroom setting in order to have a successful outcome. This program discusses crimes involving children from a prosecutors point of view including biases, investigative issues, goals, courtroom participants, teamwork, credibility, duties, and responsibilities.
