Course overview

Utilizing a spirituality assessment and the subsequent findings in healthcare can assist practitioners inspecting the values and dignity of all patients. Faith and spirituality are often effective means for providing coping resources for patients, especially as they are dealing with high levels of stress, pain and disease processes. Likewise, research has shown that spiritual distress is associated with poorer health and quality of life outcomes. This course will address issues and barriers to providing spirituality to patients and components of regulatory support and requirements. Then it will review a spiritual assessment tool for the healthcare provider to utilize, within their medical scope of practice. Further guidelines of spiritual assessment will be presented from cited studies, to help healthcare professionals understand how a person's faith may impact their spiritual choices.
