Course overview

Inappropriate patient sexual behavior (IPSB) is any verbal or physical act of an explicit or perceived sexual nature that is unacceptable within the social context in which it is carried out when committed by a patient and directed at a clinician, staff, or other patient in any healthcare setting. IPSB encompasses a spectrum of behaviors, including staring, propositions, genital exposure, and sexual assault. Professionals may experience ethical distress when attempting to balance their legal and ethical commitment to the health of a misbehaving patient with their own right to workplace safety.
