Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease that causes degeneration of motor neurons. The perfect treatment strategy for patients with ALS has yet to be found, but the consensus is that the most important aspect of treating patients with ALS is to improve quality of life and to maintain independence for as long as possible.
