Course overview

This ethics course covers important codes of ethics and Florida laws and rules. A review of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) covers important privacy issues and the ethical and legal implications of compliance. HIPPA laws are presented on the following topics: sign-in sheets, consent, maintenance of records over time, disposal of medical records, marketing, media coverage, legal authorization for release of information, sharing patient information for treatment purposes, disability and abuse exemptions, and confidential conversations. Ethical considerations and how they bear on state laws and requirements for acupuncturists relating to their scope of practice is presented.
