Course overview
Physical activity, diet modifications (such as reducing energy intake), and lifestyle changes are recognized methods for weight control. Pharmacotherapy is used as a supplement to nutrition, physical activity counseling, and lifestyle changes. There are several FDA-approved medications for chronic weight management and other medications that are approved for short-term use. Weight loss medications continue to be controversial making a risk-benefit analysis key before implementing this type of weight loss intervention.
