Medical Massage Therapy

Course overview

This advanced course provides the essentials of clinical practice for the massage therapist who is treating clients and patients with conditions and pain complaints. It includes six modules focusing on the head and neck, shoulder and arm, thoracic spine and trunk, lumbar spine and hip, lower extremity, and objective assessment and documentation. The process of medical massage therapy is taught throughout and includes assessment, determination of indications and contraindications, hands-on techniques, adjunctive modalities (hydrotherapy, etc.), client self-care, documentation, and health care team dynamics. A focus on functional anatomy, kinesiology, and pathology is provided throughout each module of the course. Each module requires successful completion of a 60-question test.
