Course overview

The rapidly evolving Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is currently a major public health concern, and is impacting individuals, families and loved ones, and children in multiple ways. Children and their caregivers may be experiencing increased emotional and physical stress, and may lack the ability to know how to effectively cope with these stressors. Nurses and other healthcare providers need to be educated on how to be prepared to care for themselves, their own children, and young patients in order to reduce stress and anxiety during this pandemic. This program discusses how stress can affect and manifest itself in young children, methods of helping children and their caregivers to manage stress, how to help young children who are separated from parents and caregivers due to illness or work, and how to respond when a child is dealing with dysregulation or grief.
