Course overview

While the benefits of exercise are widely accepted, there is still a shortage of information and guidance to the special needs and considerations of older clients. This course will identify the exercise related motivations, benefits and challenges unique to clients over the age of 55. Student will learn of some of the most common health issues faced by Senior clients, and the important adjustments to exercise needed to accommodate the target population. The class includes changes in human physiology, psychology and social position related to aging. Also featured is a synopsis of some of the most prevalent medications among older Americans and how these medications affect exercise planning. Specific exercise techniques are recommended which have been shown to be safe and effective for clients over age 55.
