Depression and Anxiety in the I/DD Population

Course overview

People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) are at risk for the same health diagnoses as people without I/DD, but the illnesses may go unnoticed, and therefore undiagnosed. With the presence of an increase in health disparities for people with I/DD, compared to people without I/DD, it is no surprise that mental health diagnoses are present, but remain undiagnosed. This presentation will discuss the rate of depression and anxiety occurring in populations with I/DD, and hot it oftentimes presents uniquely compared to people without I/DD. We will review two case studies, and review a variety of interventions the RN might include in the person's health care management plan (HCMP).
