The target audience for this education program is nurses who want to expand their knowledge of the pathophysiology of stroke and provide safe and appropriate nursing care in the emergency and acute care settings. Course Overview: This course is intended for professional nurses working in settings that offer stroke victim rehabilitation services. Standards for rehabilitation services, and the prevention of future stroke events are included. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Justify rehabilitation services following stroke events. 2. Explain specific rehabilitation interventions that follow a stroke event. 3. Describe the nurse’s role in stroke rehabilitation. 4. Explain effective patient/family education strategies. 5. Differentiate among the different healthcare accrediting associations. 6. Explain strategies to prevent recurrent stroke. 7. Identify important factors to consider regarding long-term care facilities.
