Treatment and Support Services (Strategic Directive 3): 2012 National Strategy for Suicide Prevention: Goals and Objectives for Action: A Report of the U.S. Surgeon General promotes suicide prevention as a core component of health care services and stresses the importance of effective clinical and professional practices for assessing and treating those identified as being at risk for suicidal behaviors. This report also reflects on the need to provide care and support to individuals affected by suicide deaths and attempts to promote healing while implementing community strategies to help prevent further suicides.
