Course overview

According to the United States Public Health Service guidelines for the management of occupational exposures to HIV and recommendations for post-exposure prophylaxis, the most important strategy in preventing work-related transmission of HIV infection is to prevent exposures. In 2013, updated guidelines were released by the U.S. Public Health Service regarding the management of healthcare workers who have potentially had work-related exposure to HIV. By providing continuing nursing education regarding current best practices and recommended guidelines for prevention and management of HIV exposures, nurses will understand the importance of prevention strategies, prompt reporting of potential HIV exposures, and post-exposure management.
