Professional development educators and preceptors play an important role in fostering a positive environment for graduates, helping to bridge the gap between school and hospital employment. Precepting and continuing education is crucial in encouraging the competence, familiarity, confidence, and security of graduates in an unfamiliar environment. The role of a professional development educator and preceptor encompasses much more than being just a teacher or mentor, and by educating graduates regarding key roles and responsibilities, preceptors and educators will be enabled to provide an optimal experience while serving in these roles.
