312416 Expectant Management with Prelabor Rupture of Membranes at Term

Course overview

According to the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM), expectant management of premature rupture of membranes at term (tPROM) should be an option for women, assuming that they meet a set of pre-determined conditions defined by the ACNM. Results of the TermProm Study concluded that both induction of labor and expectant management are feasible options for women presenting with tPROM. While labor induction is viewed as more favorable by women than expectant management, women should still be afforded the opportunity to participate in shared decision making when it comes to choosing expectant management as a safe alternative, thus necessitating education regarding current evidence and best practices for tPROM.
