Course overview

In its leadership standards, The Joint Commission mandates that healthcare organizations must have policies and procedures in place for conflict management within leadership groups. In addition, these organizations must also show demonstration of a continued effort to encourage effective communication and resolution of conflict. By implementing these processes, conflict can be quickly identified and managed, before it impacts quality of care and safety. While conflict management policies and strategies will vary between organizations, healthcare professionals need to be educated regarding conflict management strategies in the workplace in order to have a positive impact on the patient care environment. If conflicts are not addressed and managed effectively, patient safety may suffer as a result.
