Course overview
Lectures get a bad rap because they are often poorly constructed with little interaction between the presenter and students. When lectures are designed well, teach the right content at the right level, and include activities that keep learners involved they remain the most efficient and effective way to teach terms and concepts. This three-part series deconstructs and then reconstructs lectures to ensure learners stay engaged while learning important content. Join ABMP Director of Education Anne Williams as you reinvent your lectures to improve learning outcomes. In Part One, we will: •Use a learning taxonomy to properly build knowledge in the right levels. •Identify components of the cognitive domain and match them to learning levels. •Use four methods that build context for learners in the beginning of lectures. •Identify five methods to “hook” learners at the beginning of lectures. •Explain two up-on-your-feet activities that increase learner curiosity and energy before lectures. •Discuss two methods that improve slide design to enhance the visual aspect of lectures.
